چکیده
Since 2010, the CryoSat-2 satellite mission has enabled to largely improve sea ice freeboard estimations. But due complexity of radar echoes over ice, retrieval from altimetry still presents some errors and biases that further limit potential these observations for climate studies or assimilation into models. Various methods have been explored, producing a large range In this study, we analyze main steps computation developed as part Cryo-SeaNice Project. The objective is quantify impacts each processing method identify optimal strategies estimations SAR measurements. We consider two options: Hamming Window (HW) with Zero-Padding (ZP), 2 retrackers: Threshold First Maximum Retracker Algorithm (TFMRA) based on heuristic measurements SAMOSA+ retracker declined model analysis surface back-scatter. The Impact of Geophysical Corrections on Sea-Ice Freeboard Retrieved from Satellite Altimetry
Satellite altimetry is the only method to monitor global changes in sea-ice thickness and volume over decades. Such missions (e.g., ERS, Envisat, ICESat, CryoSat-2) are based on the conversion of freeboard into thickness by assuming hydrostatic equilibrium. Freeboard, the height of the ice above the water level, is therefore a crucial parameter. Freeboard is a relative quantity, computed by sub...
متن کاملSAR Sea Ice Recognition Using Texture Methods
With the development of remote sensing techniques, a vast amount of SAR sea ice imagery is being provided by satellite platforms. As an important aspect of measurement, monitoring, and understanding of sea ice evolution during the seasons, the generation of ice type maps is a fundamental step in the interpretation of these data. The abundant texture information in SAR imagery is useful for segm...

With the conclusion of the science phase of the Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) mission in late 2009, and the planned launch of ICESat-2 in late 2015, NASA has recently established the IceBridge program to provide continuity between missions. A major goal of IceBridge is to obtain a sea-ice thickness time series via airborne surveys over the Arctic and Southern Oceans. Typicall...
متن کاملIce, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) over Arctic sea ice: Retrieval of freeboard
[1] Total freeboard (snow and ice) of the Arctic Ocean sea ice cover is derived using Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) data from two 35-day periods: one during the fall (October November) of 2005 and the other during the winter (February March) of 2006. Three approaches are used to identify near-sea-surface tiepoints. Thin ice or open water samples in new openings, typically wi...

changing altimetry information from satellites on the surface of seas and oceans, into anomaly gravity for example free air anomaly, is a fundamentally new method presented by researches. the determination of the free air gravity anomaly over the earth’s marine regions has led to a major improvement in our understanding of plate tectonic processes relating to oceanic ridges, the formation of ma...
